Audrey Harvey
Research Services Manager
Audrey is a Ph.D. candidate in Biology whose research focuses on plant adaptation, restoration ecology, and seed-based conservation strategies in dryland ecosystems. She has applied field experience in vegetation surveys and integrated weed management. As a manager for CAWL, she coordinates research logistics, manages the research fleet, and oversees purchasing. Audrey is Diné (Navajo), of the Charcoal Streaked of the Red Running into the Water People, Náneesht’ézhí Táchii’nii, and born for the Big Water People, Tótsohnii. She was raised in Tselani Springs on the Navajo Nation, where her family continues to raise livestock and practice dryland farming. This upbringing grounds her in a lived understanding of land stewardship and the communities that depend on our western landscapes.

Daniel Schlaepfer
Senior Research Scientist
Daniel Schlaepfer is a plant ecologist and quantitative ecologist. He develops simulation models and other quantitative approaches to understand how dryland vegetation, ecological drought, aridity and climate change interact across western U.S. ecosystems including sagebrush, grasslands, deserts, pinyon-juniper woodlands, and dry forests. He leads the development of SOILWAT2, a soil moisture focused ecosystem water balance simulation model. His work contributes to informing land management and conservation prioritization related to climate adaptation, invasive plants, grazing, wildland fire, and plant recruitment and mortality.

Allison Stegner
Research Scientist
Allison Stegner is a Research Scientist with the Center for Adaptable Western Landscapes. She is an ecologist with a broad interest in how ecosystems respond to land use and climate change. Her current research focuses on rangeland ecosystems, and she has a background in paleoecology.
